Founder & CEO · lemlist (lempire)
Guillaume Moubeche is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of lempire, the Paris company behind lemlist. He started it in 2018 with $1,000 and has never raised primary funding, building a five-product suite for B2B sales and social selling — lemlist, lemwarm, lemcal, Taplio and Tweet Hunter — to a $150 million valuation and tens of millions in annual recurring revenue. He turned down a $30 million investment offer and wrote a book about why.

Executive Summary
Guillaume Moubeche is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of lempire, the Paris company behind lemlist. He launched it in 2018 with $1,000 in a category — cold email outreach — that was already crowded with venture-funded American competitors, and he has never taken primary investment. lempire is now a five-product suite covering sales engagement, email deliverability, scheduling and social selling on LinkedIn and X, reporting $26 million in annual recurring revenue on a team of around ninety and roughly $10 million in EBITDA. Moubeche reached a $150 million valuation in 2021, at which point he sold $10 million of his own shares rather than raising capital, and he turned down a $30 million investment offer outright. The strategy that made it work — founder-led marketing, building in public, publishing the numbers — is now the thing he is best known for, and he wrote a book about it.
Career Highlights
- Launched lemlist in 2018 with a $1,000 investment and hit $1 million in annual recurring revenue by 2019, entirely bootstrapped.
- Reached a $150 million valuation by 2021 without raising primary funding, and sold $10 million of secondary shares at that valuation rather than taking capital into the business.
- Turned down a $30 million investment offer to keep lempire independent.
- Built lempire into five products: lemlist for sales engagement, lemwarm for email deliverability, lemcal for scheduling, and Taplio and Tweet Hunter for social selling.
- Acquired Pony Express — the company behind Taplio and Tweet Hunter — from his former schoolmate Thibaud Louis-Lucas in 2023, when the two products were doing roughly $100,000 in monthly recurring revenue between about 8,000 users.
- Wrote “The $150M Secret”, on turning $1,000 into a $150 million company in three and a half years without outside capital.
- Reported $26 million in annual recurring revenue in 2024 across the five products, with around 90 staff and roughly $10 million in EBITDA.
- Became one of Europe’s most visible proponents of founder-led marketing and building in public, and a frequent podcast and conference speaker on bootstrapped SaaS.
Professional Journey
Moubeche trained as a chemical engineer at Chimie ParisTech – PSL before taking a master’s in marketing at HEC Paris — an engineering-then-commerce sequence that is common in France and unusual among SaaS founders elsewhere. His first venture, in 2016, was a business with his father. It failed.
In 2017 he started LeadGuru, a B2B client acquisition agency serving scale-ups and small and medium businesses. Agencies are a poor business — revenue scales with headcount — but they are an excellent place to discover what customers actually need, and LeadGuru put him inside the outbound sales problem daily. What he found was that cold email at scale reads as cold email at scale, and that the tooling available did nothing to fix it.
lemlist launched in 2018 with $1,000 behind it. The product’s distinguishing idea was ultra-personalisation: generating genuinely individual elements, including images, inside outbound sequences, so that an automated message did not read like one. It reached $1 million in ARR in 2019. From the beginning Moubeche ran the company in public, publishing revenue figures, mistakes and strategy in long-form posts — partly a growth channel he could afford when he could not afford paid acquisition against funded competitors, and partly a philosophical position.
By 2021 lempire, the parent company, was valued at $150 million. Moubeche declined a $30 million investment offer, and instead of raising primary capital he sold roughly $10 million of secondary shares — taking personal liquidity without putting outside money or outside control into the operating business. That decision is the centre of his public narrative and the subject of his book, “The $150M Secret”.
The suite expanded in two directions. Internally, lempire built lemwarm, which manages the email deliverability problem that determines whether outreach arrives at all, and lemcal for scheduling. Externally, Moubeche acquired. In 2023 he bought Pony Express, which ran Taplio and Tweet Hunter, from Thibaud Louis-Lucas — a friend from middle school he had reconnected with. The two products, serving around 8,000 users between them for roughly $100,000 in monthly recurring revenue, extended lempire from email into social selling on LinkedIn and X.
By 2024 the group reported $26 million in annual recurring revenue with about ninety people and roughly $10 million in EBITDA — a profit margin that is the real point of the bootstrapping argument. Moubeche continues to run lempire as CEO and remains one of the most prominent European voices arguing that a software company can be built to nine figures without ever taking a term sheet.
