Azoulay trained as an engineer. He earned a Master of Engineering in micro mechanical systems at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and later an MBA at Columbia Business School. He built his career founding and scaling startups, and CTech has described him as having held several CEO roles and served as an independent board member of startups. His best-known company before Tangos was Rumble, a fintech startup that BNY Mellon bought in 2017. He then joined BNY Mellon to head its Data as a Business line. CTech’s 2026 account of Tangos’s origins mentions his visit, after the acquisition, to one of the bank’s major operations centers in India.
In July 2024 he joined the venture firm Entrée Capital as its fifth partner, overseeing existing portfolio companies and working on new investments. He had also been investing in and mentoring startups as an angel investor.
He founded Tangos AI in 2025 to automate financial crime investigations. The company argues that organizations have become good at flagging risk but that investigating it remains a major bottleneck. “Financial crime has evolved into a network problem that increasingly exceeds the capacity of traditional investigative processes,” he said when announcing the seed round. Tangos says its team has more than 75 combined years in financial crime, sanctions and intelligence work. According to CTech, it includes former officials from the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control and veterans of Israel’s intelligence and security community, and has about 20 people in Israel plus experts in Washington, D.C. The $20 million seed round, announced on 7 July 2026, is funding product development, engineering and go-to-market hiring, and deployments with U.S. customers.
