Professional Journey

Mertz’s finance career began at Netflix in 2006, where she held a series of finance roles over seven years, ending as Vice President of Finance and Investor Relations. That period covered Netflix’s pivot from DVD-by-mail to streaming, and it left a durable mark: EDGAR full-text search surfaces a run of Netflix quarterly earnings releases from 2011 to 2013 carrying her name as the company’s investor-relations contact. When she rejoined the company as a director more than a decade later, she described Netflix as “a company that played a formative role in my career”.

She left Netflix for Airbnb in February 2013, as head of global financial planning and analysis. At that point Airbnb was a private company several years from an IPO, and the job was to build the planning function rather than run an established one. In January 2019 she became Vice President of Finance, adding strategic finance and analytics, corporate planning and investor relations to her remit — a portfolio that positioned her directly for the step up. Airbnb announced the CFO transition in December 2023, and she took the role in March 2024.

As CFO she has kept an unusually active outside board practice. She joined DoorDash’s board in July 2022, while still Airbnb’s VP of Finance, and now chairs its audit committee. She sat on the board of the wholesale marketplace Faire from May 2022 until November 2025.
