Professional Journey

Lightbody joined Darktrace straight after postgraduate study, when the company had around 50 people worldwide. She founded and built its operations in Africa as a director. She then became Global Head of the Darktrace Industrial Division, which focused on securing critical national infrastructure. She left shortly before the company’s stock market listing.

In 2021 Luminance’s investors asked her to take over as chief executive. The company had been developed by AI experts from the University of Cambridge and applied AI to legal documents. Lightbody has spoken of accepting quickly because of the size of the opportunity. She has worked with the founders, who remain involved in the business.

Her tenure has taken the product further into the enterprise. The platform now covers contract drafting, review and negotiation, including automated negotiation, as well as compliance and procurement work. Its customers include AMD, Hitachi, LG Chem, Koch, SiriusXM, Rolls-Royce and Lamborghini. In February 2025 Luminance raised a $75 million Series C led by Point72 Private Investments, with Forestay Capital, RPS Ventures, Schroders Capital, March Capital, National Grid Partners and the law firm Slaughter and May taking part. That round took the total raised in twelve months to more than $115 million. By then the US already produced 40% of revenue. The company opened offices in San Francisco, Dallas and Toronto, expanded in New York, and kept its research and development hub in Cambridge.

The company kept growing. Luminance reports that global revenue doubled in 2025 for the second consecutive year, that US revenue grew two and a half times to 44% of the total, and that it signed its first eight-figure enterprise deal. In May 2026 it received the King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade. In March 2026 Lightbody appointed Daniel Head as President to lead go-to-market and international expansion. She has been a director of Luminance Technologies Ltd since March 2024, and the board is chaired by Martina King. In November 2025 she was named Tech Businesswoman of the Year at the UK Tech Awards.
