Professional Journey

Pátek studied waste processing at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague in the early 2000s — “it seemed modern to me, that I would save the world”, as he later put it — and concluded fairly quickly that the reality was some distance from the idea. He has said the conviction that formed instead was that the world holds a great many opportunities and very few companies able to package them usefully for customers.

He founded Neeco in Prague in June 2009, initially alongside a second managing director who left the register the following year and whom he subsequently bought out to become sole owner. The insight was that between a multinational client and the thousands of local subcontractors it would otherwise have to negotiate with, there was room for one more platform. Europe was reluctant at first for lack of references, so he sold into Asia, where buyers cared more about whether the proposition made sense, and returned to Europe and then the United States with the references in hand. International offices followed in the USA in 2011, Singapore and India in 2013, Hong Kong and the UK in 2014, Russia in 2017 and France in 2019.

The business grew from nothing to 750 million koruna of revenue by the end of 2018, at around 30% a year, without ever raising outside money — a point Pátek returns to often, arguing that cheap investor capital damages what he calls the beautiful nature of traditional entrepreneurship and that the fastest way to kill a startup’s creativity is to hand it money. Neeco today supplies large multinational turn-key projects end to end: procurement and distribution of telecoms equipment, global and last-mile logistics, importer-of-record and customs work, warehousing, field services and installation, maintenance and support, data connectivity including satellite, and managed services. It holds ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certifications and was named a Dell Gold Partner in February 2025.

Around the core ICT business Pátek has assembled the Neeco Group, a holding structure of roughly thirty companies and projects; the Czech register shows sibling entities covering ICT, investment, property, distribution, trading, fashion and an endowment fund. He describes himself as an entrepreneur, visionary and investor, and has said his ventures extend to two mountain resorts, a non-profit representing Czech authors and designers, retail shops and film production. He also practises acquiring whole teams rather than only individuals, and Neeco has functioned as an investor for founders bringing it projects, among them the paperless meal-voucher business Benefitka.
