Executive Summary
Brian Robins is Chief Financial Officer of Snowflake Inc. (NYSE: SNOW), the data and AI cloud platform, a post he took up on 22 September 2025. He is one of the more experienced serial CFOs in enterprise software, having held the finance chair at five companies before Snowflake, most recently GitLab and, before that, Sisense, Cylance, AlienVault and the Nasdaq-listed internet infrastructure company VeriSign. Three of those were cybersecurity businesses, a sector that taught the pattern-recognition for rapid, acquisition-driven growth he has carried into data infrastructure. At Snowflake he succeeded Mike Scarpelli, the finance chief who had defined the company’s reporting discipline through its record-setting 2020 IPO, and inherited the harder problem that follows a consumption-revenue company into the AI era: matching customer spending patterns that fluctuate with workload against the fixed cost of the cloud capacity that serves them.
Career Highlights
- Signed Snowflake’s Sarbanes-Oxley section 302 certification as Chief Financial Officer and Principal Financial Officer on 4 September 2026, filed with the company’s quarterly report for the period ended 31 July 2026.
- Appointed Snowflake’s Chief Financial Officer effective 22 September 2025, in an announcement made on 3 September 2025.
- Succeeded Mike Scarpelli, who retired from the CFO role after taking Snowflake through its initial public offering and remained with the company as an employee and adviser.
- Chief Financial Officer of GitLab Inc. from October 2020, responsible for the company’s finance, data and business systems functions.
- Previously Chief Financial Officer of Sisense, of Cylance and of AlienVault, three cybersecurity and analytics companies, and of VeriSign, Inc., the Nasdaq-listed operator of core internet infrastructure.
- Director of ID.me and chair of its audit committee.
- Special advisor to Brighton Park Capital, L.P., a growth equity firm, and a member of the ForgePoint Capital cybersecurity advisory council.
- Holds a B.S. in finance from Lipscomb University in Nashville and an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University.
Professional Journey
Robins built his career as a finance chief in companies that were either scaling fast or being prepared for sale, mostly in security software. He was Chief Financial Officer of VeriSign, Inc., the Nasdaq-listed company that operates the .com and .net domain registries and other core internet infrastructure, a business with unusual economics: highly predictable recurring revenue from domain renewals, combined with the operational obligation of running systems that cannot fail. He then took the CFO role at AlienVault, the open-source-derived threat intelligence and security management company, and at Cylance, the machine-learning endpoint protection vendor, both of which grew quickly in a consolidating security market. He was also Chief Financial Officer of Sisense, the embedded analytics company, his first move toward the data and business-intelligence side of enterprise software.
In October 2020 he became Chief Financial Officer of GitLab Inc., the DevOps platform company, with responsibility for finance, data and business systems. He joined roughly a year before GitLab’s Nasdaq listing, and his five-year tenure spanned the company’s transition from a private, remote-first organisation into a public company reporting quarterly against a demanding growth narrative. His SEC Form 144 filings disposing of GitLab stock in late 2025 mark the end of that association.
Snowflake announced his appointment on 3 September 2025, effective 22 September. The move was a significant one for the company, because he was replacing Mike Scarpelli, who had been Snowflake’s CFO since 2019 and had brought with him the reporting rigour developed at ServiceNow, and who remained with the company as an employee and adviser rather than departing outright. Snowflake’s chief executive framed the choice around operational rigour and long-term high growth.
The job is defined by Snowflake’s consumption pricing model, in which customers pay for compute and storage actually used rather than for seats. That makes revenue harder to forecast than in a conventional subscription business, ties gross margin directly to the cost of underlying cloud capacity bought from Amazon, Microsoft and Google, and creates a constant tension between encouraging customers to run more workloads and helping them optimise their spend. Layered on top is the shift to AI workloads, which change consumption patterns and require heavy investment in capacity ahead of demand. Robins signs the company’s quarterly certifications as principal financial officer, most recently for the quarter ended 31 July 2026.
Alongside the executive role he keeps a portfolio of board and advisory positions concentrated in the sectors he knows. He chairs the audit committee of the digital identity company ID.me, advises the growth equity firm Brighton Park Capital, and sits on ForgePoint Capital’s cybersecurity advisory council. He also serves on the board of the GitLab Foundation, the philanthropic arm established by his former employer.
