Executive Summary

Brian Cruver is co-founder and CEO of Scorability, an Austin company building software for college sports recruiting, and founder and executive chairman of AlertMedia, the emergency communications and threat-monitoring software company he ran as CEO for nine years. He is a repeat Austin founder whose second act turned on a personal problem: as the parent of a Division I athlete he saw how disorganised recruiting was for coaches and families, and with former AlertMedia revenue chief Brett Andrew he set out to build the tools for it. Scorability has since raised an $11 million seed round and a $40 million follow-on.

Career Highlights

  • Co-Founder and CEO of Scorability, which announced an $11 million Series Seed in October 2023 and a $40 million round led by Bluestone Equity Partners in September 2025.
  • Founded AlertMedia and served as its CEO for nine years; named Executive Chairman of the Board in March 2022 when Christopher Kenessey became CEO.
  • Remains Founder and Executive Chairman of AlertMedia, which reports more than 3,500 customers in over 150 countries.
  • Co-founded Xenex Disinfection Services in 2009, according to his own biography.
  • Wrote The Anatomy of Greed, an insider account of Enron that was adapted into a CBS television movie.

Professional Journey

Cruver’s own biography places an early part of his career at Enron, which he wrote about in The Anatomy of Greed: The Unshredded Truth from an Enron Insider, a book later adapted for CBS television. He went on to build companies in Austin. By his account he established the investment firm MarketDriver Ventures in 2002 and co-founded Xenex Disinfection Services in 2009, which makes ultraviolet-light robots for disinfecting hospital rooms.

His best-known company is AlertMedia, which sells software that lets organisations send emergency notifications across multiple channels and monitor threats to their people and locations. SEC filings show Alert Media, Inc. raising venture funding from 2015 onwards with Cruver as its executive officer and a director. In March 2022, after what he described as “the past nine years as AlertMedia’s CEO”, he handed the chief executive role to Christopher Kenessey, previously CEO of NetMotion, and became executive chairman of the board. AlertMedia’s leadership page continues to list him as Founder and Executive Chairman, and the company now reports more than 3,500 customers in over 150 countries and more than 450 employees.

His next venture came from home. Cruver and Brett Andrew, AlertMedia’s former chief revenue officer, both had children who went through college sports recruiting, and in October 2023 they announced Scorability with an $11 million seed round from Next Coast Ventures and Silverton Partners, both of which had backed them before. “Thousands of college athletics programs are continuously sifting through millions of prospective student athletes, and it is absolute chaos with no clear process or useful tools,” he said at the time. In September 2025 the company announced a $40 million round led by Bluestone Equity Partners, in which Cruver also invested. Scorability now says 4,000 college programs use its platform, with coverage across football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball and soccer.
