Professional Journey

Goswami took a Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology at Nirma University in Ahmedabad between 1997 and 2001, then moved to the United States for a Master of Science in Computer Science at the University of South Florida, completed in 2003. He worked as a project manager at Telecommunication Systems before joining Amazon.

At Amazon Web Services in Seattle he joined the initial development team for Simple Storage Service, and was part of the group that shipped the first version of S3 in 2006. The timing is significant: S3 was AWS’s first widely adopted service and the foundation of the public cloud storage market, so he was building cloud infrastructure several years before most of the industry had a working definition of the term. He spent somewhat over three years at Amazon.

He then moved to Microsoft, working on Cosmos — the company’s internal cloud storage and big data computational engine, which powered Microsoft’s online services including Bing. The pairing gave him production experience of the two dominant cloud platforms from the inside, at a stage when both were still being defined.

In 2011 he returned to India, and in 2012 he founded CloudThat in Bengaluru. The founding insight was straightforward but early: Indian enterprises would move to the cloud, Indian engineers would need cloud skills to make that happen, and almost nobody in the country had first-hand experience of building the platforms in question. CloudThat was built around training and consulting in tandem — teaching professionals and corporates on cloud and big data while also delivering projects, so that the training remained grounded in practice.

The firm has since grown into an established multi-cloud partner and training provider, with offices in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad and international presence in the United States, the United Kingdom and Bangladesh. Goswami has kept his own technical credentials current, holding Microsoft Certified Trainer status alongside AWS, Azure and Google Cloud certifications, and has become a visible commentator on India’s cloud ecosystem through trade press and authored columns. He also completed executive education at IIM Ahmedabad on leading professional services firms and the Stanford Seed Transformation Program in 2022, both oriented to the problem of scaling a services business rather than to technology. Separately, he co-founded CloudAttack in 2021.
