Professional Journey

Samara started driving trucks at 22 and entered the business almost 25 years before 2024 as an owner-operator with one truck, according to Volvo Trucks North America. From that start he founded Legend Transportation Inc. The company markets itself as a Western regional freight carrier and gives Phoenix, Arizona, as the dateline of its releases. It runs terminals in Phoenix; Yuba City, Rialto and Bakersfield, California; San Antonio, Texas; and Las Vegas. Its customers have included General Mills, Henkel, Target, GEODIS, Mars and Unilever, several of which have given it carrier awards.

Since 2024 the company’s public announcements have mostly been about fleet renewal and emissions. In April 2024 it took delivery of 10 eCascadia electric trucks for Southern California, and Samara said the investment reflected “our commitment to sustainable logistics”. Two months later Volvo announced that Legend had placed the first order for the redesigned Volvo VNL, 50 VNL 860s through dealer TEC Equipment. Samara said fuel economy was “paramount” and that the new trucks would help with recruiting and keeping drivers, “a significant industry challenge”. In July 2025 the company announced 75 more Volvo VNLs.

The company has also been recognized by its shippers. Mars Pet Nutrition named New Legend its 2024 Sustainability Carrier of the Year, citing its electric-truck investment. Unilever gave it the 2025 Care Deeply Hero Award for its work at Unilever’s Rialto distribution center, where the company says it delivered more than 2,200 shipments and was among the first carriers to use renewable diesel on that freight. General Mills named Legend its 2026 OTIF (on-time, in-full) Dry Carrier of the Year.
