Professional Journey
Rodriguez began his career at Arthur Andersen in 1997 and is licensed as a CPA in New York. In 2000 he joined the Atari Group, where he spent the next eleven years in finance leadership. The high point of that period was a stint as Acting Chief Financial Officer of Atari, Inc., then listed on Nasdaq, from 2007 to 2008, followed by two years as Deputy CFO of its French parent, Atari SA, listed on Euronext.
From 2012 to 2017 he was Chief Accounting Officer and Global Controller of Piksel, Inc., and in 2017 he also served there as Interim Chief Operating Officer.
He joined Aterian, then called Mohawk Group, in September 2017 as Senior Vice President of Finance. The company, whose brands would come to include hOmeLabs, Mueller Living, PurSteam and Squatty Potty, is listed on Nasdaq and changed its name to Aterian in 2021. Rodriguez became Chief Financial Officer in March 2021. In July 2023 the board made him Co-CEO alongside Joseph Risico, and he kept the CFO role. When Risico left in June 2024, Rodriguez became sole Chief Executive Officer and Joshua Feldman took over as CFO. He described the task as “focusing, simplifying and stabilizing the Company towards achieving Adjusted EBITDA profitability.” Stockholders elected him a Class III director in August 2025.
In April 2026 Aterian agreed two transactions together. It would sell the assets behind its main brands, including Mueller Living, PurSteam, hOmeLabs and Squatty Potty, to Trademark Global for $18.0 million, and it would sell preferred stock to David E. Lazar. Both closed on 17 July 2026 after stockholders approved them. Lazar became the controlling shareholder and was appointed Chief Executive Officer, and Rodriguez’s term as CEO ended. He agreed to stay on as a non-executive employee through the end of September 2026 to support the transition. He remains a member of the board and of its special committee overseeing a planned dividend.
