Executive Summary
Alex Halliday is co-founder and chief executive of AirOps, a New York and San Francisco company whose software helps marketing, content and SEO teams get their brands seen and cited inside AI assistants rather than only in traditional search results. He started the company in 2022 with Matt Hammel and Berna Gonzalez, after leading product at MasterClass and Teespring, and before ChatGPT’s public launch — so AirOps began as a tool to help non-technical staff work with data and found its present market when marketers turned out to be its heaviest users. In November 2025 it raised a $40 million Series B led by Greylock at a $225 million valuation.

Professional Journey
Before AirOps, Halliday led product at two consumer internet companies that scaled quickly: Teespring, the print-on-demand merchandise platform, and MasterClass, the online education subscription. Neither the company nor the press coverage consulted gives his titles or dates in those roles.
He founded AirOps in early 2022 with Matt Hammel, now chief operating officer, and Berna Gonzalez, now chief technology officer. The timing shaped the company. It predated the public launch of ChatGPT by most of a year, and the original product was not an AI product at all: it helped non-technical employees get at their company’s data. As large language models became usable and the team built them into the product, AirOps found that marketers were the users who kept coming back, using it to create or refresh content. The company followed them.
That shift became AirOps’s thesis, which it now calls content engineering: building the systems that get a brand discovered, compared and chosen inside AI assistants rather than through ten blue links. Halliday’s argument, as Fortune reported it, is that the old SEO playbook of repackaging existing web content stops working when AI agents reward material that is genuinely new, and that this makes the marketer’s job harder and more valuable at the same time.
Investors backed the pivot in two rounds. Unusual Ventures led a $15.5 million Series A in October 2024, with Wing VC, Founder Collective, Xfund and Alt Capital participating. In November 2025 Greylock led a $40 million Series B at a $225 million valuation, joined by existing investors and by more than two dozen chief marketing officers and marketing leaders investing personally. AirOps names Ramp, Webflow, Kayak, Klaviyo and Chime among its customers.
