Executive Summary

Wendy Hamilton is Chief Executive Officer of TechSmith, the East Lansing, Michigan company that makes the screen capture and video editing products Snagit and Camtasia. TechSmith was founded in 1987 by her father, Bill Hamilton, but she did not come up through the family business: she joined in 2015 after a career spent almost entirely elsewhere, in technology consulting at Accenture, product leadership at a venture-backed software start-up that went public, and general management at Thomson Reuters, where she ended up running the global Life Sciences business line. The company describes her as a values-first leader focused on putting customers first.

  • Global leader and general manager of Thomson Reuters’ Life Sciences business line, with teams in five countries.
  • Head of Product at a venture-backed software start-up that she helped take public and that Thomson Reuters later acquired.
  • Eight years in Accenture’s technology consulting practice.
  • Two years as Board Chair of the Lansing Chamber of Commerce.

Professional Journey

Hamilton graduated from Haverford College with high honors in Economics and spent her first eight years in Accenture’s technology consulting practice. She then joined a venture-backed software start-up as head of Product and helped take it public.

When Thomson Reuters acquired the start-up, she stayed and worked her way up through product, marketing and services roles until she was global leader and general manager of the Life Sciences business line, with teams in five countries. Her Rotary Club of Lansing biography puts her total experience before TechSmith at 25 years, across digital information, commercial software and technology consulting.

She joined TechSmith in 2015. Her father, Bill Hamilton, had founded the company in East Lansing in 1987 and built it into the maker of Snagit and Camtasia. The company’s memorial page for him, who died in 2024, names her as his daughter and records his view that an innovative software company could thrive in East Lansing. TechSmith’s leadership page now lists her as Chief Executive Officer, and it says she is drawing on her background in product innovation, growth strategy and global leadership to extend the company’s position in visual communication. Her leadership team is mostly long-tenured: the chief technology officer and chief revenue officer both joined TechSmith in 2002.

Outside the company, she served two years as Board Chair of the Lansing Chamber of Commerce.
