Executive Summary
Vijay Padmanabhan is Chief Financial Officer of UST, the Aliso Viejo, California-headquartered digital transformation and IT services group. He leads the company’s global finance organisation, with responsibility for treasury, tax, accounting, financial reporting, compliance, internal audit and investor relations, and additionally oversees performance management and strategy for UST’s subsidiary companies and platforms. His career is unusual in its singularity: he has spent effectively the whole of it inside one company, moving through corporate controllership, financial planning and analysis, the chief of staff role to the chief executive and the Chief Corporate Officer seat before taking over finance outright in 2023 — a company that in that time grew from a small services firm into a roughly $2 billion, 30,000-plus-person global business.
Career Highlights
- Chief Financial Officer of UST, leading the global finance organisation across treasury, tax, accounting, financial reporting, compliance, internal audit and investor relations (UST leadership biography).
- Also holds responsibility for performance management and strategy across UST’s subsidiary companies and platforms, a corporate-development remit that sits outside a conventional CFO mandate (UST leadership biography).
- Appointed CFO in 2023, having previously served as UST’s Chief Corporate Officer — covering strategy and planning, subsidiaries and spinoffs, and investor relations — and as Chief of Staff to the chief executive (CFO.com, 20 August 2024).
- Built the company’s financial planning function as Vice President of Finance, Corporate Controller and Global Head of Finance and FP&A, spanning global treasury, financial planning, M&A, corporate investment and financial reporting (UST leadership biography).
- Has been CFO through a period in which UST reached more than 30,000 employees worldwide and approximately $2 billion of annual revenue (CFO.com, August 2024).
Professional Journey
Padmanabhan’s career has been made almost entirely within UST. He joined the company’s finance function and worked upward through it over roughly two decades, holding Vice President of Finance, Corporate Controller and Global Head of Finance and FP&A along the way. In those roles his remit covered global treasury, financial planning, mergers and acquisitions, corporate investment and financial reporting — in other words, he built much of the finance machinery he now runs, across a company whose operations span multiple geographies.
Before moving into the CFO seat he held two roles that widened his scope beyond finance. As Chief of Staff to the chief executive he worked directly alongside the CEO on cross-company priorities; as Chief Corporate Officer he was responsible for corporate affairs — strategy and planning, subsidiaries and spinoffs, and investor relations. That Chief Corporate Officer role is the source of a persistent confusion about his title: UST’s own bio page still carries “Chief Corporate Officer” in its page title and meta description from an earlier revision of the page, although the body text served today, and the page’s structured data, both give his title as Chief Financial Officer.
He became CFO in 2023. Speaking to CFO.com in August 2024, he described a company then on track for roughly $2 billion in revenue with more than 30,000 employees worldwide, and emphasised the value of a CEO-CFO relationship in which disagreement can be aired openly rather than smoothed over. His present mandate keeps the corporate-development thread running through the finance job: alongside the standard controls and reporting stack, he retains oversight of performance management and strategy for UST’s subsidiaries and platforms.
Education
University of Kerala
Degree in Accounting. UST’s own leadership biography records “a degree in Accounting from Kerala University” without specifying the level, so none is asserted here.
Padmanabhan has also completed the executive programme at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. That is executive education rather than a degree, and is recorded here as such.
