Professional Journey
Limongelli studied at Dartmouth College and took his law degree at Columbia University. He practised for five years at Morgan Lewis, where his work covered mergers and acquisitions and intellectual property licensing, and then became general counsel at a venture-backed technology company.
In 2003 he joined Guidance Software, a security software company that later became publicly traded, where he worked as General Counsel and Vice President of Professional Services before becoming President and later Chief Executive Officer. He spent more than nine years as President and seven as CEO. OneSpan says he helped take the company public and grow its revenue from $9 million to $130 million. He left as President and CEO, and stepped down from the Guidance board, in November 2014.
He then ran three more software companies, each privately held. At AccessData Group, another security software company, he was first Chairman of the Board and then Chief Executive Officer, from November 2015 to April 2018. He was CEO of MobileCause, a private equity-backed fundraising and donor engagement platform for nonprofits, from April 2018 to August 2021, and of BQE Software, which provides billing and accounting software to professional services firms, from September 2021 to April 2023.
OneSpan’s board appointed him Interim Chief Executive Officer on January 4, 2024, the same day it terminated the employment of his predecessor, Matthew Moynahan. At the time OneSpan was partway through a cost programme intended to make both of its divisions — Cybersecurity and Digital Agreements — operate profitably. The board made him President and Chief Executive Officer on July 31, 2024. He is not a member of the board; the chair is independent.
Since then the company has turned from cost-cutting towards growth. It hired a new chief technology officer in December 2024, bought passwordless authentication company Nok Nok Labs in June 2025, announced a strategic investment in and partnership with ThreatFabric in October 2025, hired a new chief revenue officer in December 2025 and completed the acquisition of mobile application protection company Build38 in February 2026. OneSpan reported revenue of $243.2 million for 2025, level with the year before, with growth in Digital Agreements offsetting a continuing decline in sales of its Digipass hardware authenticators as banks move to mobile-first authentication. It returned about $31.6 million to shareholders in 2025 through dividends and buybacks.
