Professional Journey
BlastOne began in 1975 in Adelaide, South Australia, when Gar Gooden founded it as BlastMaster, a family business selling blasting and painting products out of a backyard shed. Tim Gooden joined in 1981. The company says he held a wide range of roles over the following decades and learned the business from the ground up.
He became General Manager of Blastmaster Australia and later Global CEO, a post he held from 2010 to 2020. The company entered the United States in 2010, and in 2015 it merged with two other family businesses, Blastech and Masterfield, to form BlastOne International. The company now calls him the founder of that combined business. It sells surface preparation equipment, abrasives and coating technology to heavy industry, marine, pipeline, refinery and defense customers, and has locations across Australia, the United States, New Zealand and Malaysia. It reports close to 400 staff.
After 2020 he moved into an advisory role in the Columbus, Ohio office. The company says he still pushes its work on faster, safer and cleaner surface preparation and industrial coating technology.
In August 2025 BlastOne announced an investment by Kaltroco, a Jersey-based private investment company, and the Australian private equity firm Five V Capital. The company’s announcement said Gooden and Global Technical Director Graeme Thomas would stay on as significant shareholders with active board roles. Gooden said at the time: “By partnering with Kaltroco and Five V, we’re not replacing what makes BlastOne special — we’re building on it.” Jay Worley now leads the company as Global CEO.
