Professional Journey
Saoud grew up in a food distribution family. According to FreezPak, the business began in the 1960s as Ray Saoud Farms, a local retail store that became a wholesale supplier, and moved into frozen food in the 1970s. In the 1990s the family focused on preparing the next generation to lead it. Saoud earned a business degree from Kean University in New Jersey.
In 2001 he and his brother Dave relaunched the family business as FreezPak Logistics. They moved from distribution into third-party cold storage, running frozen, cooler and dry warehouses for food importers and producers near the New York and New Jersey port. The company now calls itself a fourth-party logistics (4PL) provider. It offers transportation, crossdocking, blast freezing, customs-bonded storage, inspections and e-commerce fulfilment alongside storage.
The brothers share the CEO title. Mike’s bio places him in charge of warehouse operations and technology. He brought in new software to improve efficiency and led FreezPak’s move into automation and robotics, including the deployment of 131 robots across its US markets. The company has also installed hydrogen and solar power. When FreezPak announced a Bedford Park, Illinois facility near Chicago in March 2023, he said that “by incorporating solar and hydrogen power, we continue to honor our commitment to responsible energy consumption and sustainability.”
Growth in the 2020s has come largely from purpose-built facilities. In August 2022 FreezPak announced a planned $1 billion joint venture with BG Capital to develop cold storage warehouses nationwide, starting with a Philadelphia facility. The brothers also set up Saoud Development, a real estate company that owns and builds FreezPak’s sites. Announcing a joint development in Suffolk, Virginia, Mike said the company “has shifted its focus towards buying land, entitling it, and constructing a world-class facility.” FreezPak has since opened sites in Houston, Jacksonville, Los Angeles (its first on the West Coast), Fall River, Massachusetts, and, in 2026, Elizabeth, New Jersey, its seventh facility in the state.
