Professional Journey

McPhail earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and business management at North Carolina State University and an MBA at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He held positions with Arthur Andersen and Wachovia Securities, then was executive vice president of corporate finance for Marconi Corporation in London.

He joined The Home Depot in 2005 and worked in strategic planning, financial planning, business development and international financial management. He was Senior Vice President of Global FP&A, Strategy, and New Business Development from 2013, Senior Vice President of Finance from 2014, and Senior Vice President of Finance Control and Administration from 2017, before becoming Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in September 2019.
