Executive Summary
Pieter Vorenkamp is a co-founder and the Chief Operating Officer of Syntiant, an Irvine, California company that builds neural decision processors for always-on edge AI and, since acquiring Knowles Corporation’s consumer MEMS microphone business in December 2024, the microphones they sit beside. He has been COO since the company started in May 2017. By Syntiant’s own account, his part among the four founders was turning the technology into something that could ship in high volume. That is the expertise he brought from twenty years at Broadcom, where he ended as senior vice president of operations engineering responsible for worldwide manufacturing technology. Syntiant filed in 2026 to list on Nasdaq, and its registration statement names him among its executive officers. He also chairs the board of Spectricity, based in Mechelen, Belgium.

Professional Journey
Vorenkamp trained in electrical engineering at the University of Twente in the Netherlands and started as a research scientist at Philips Research, working on high-speed data converters, the analog-to-digital circuitry at the edge of every communications chip.
He joined Broadcom in 1996 and stayed twenty years. He first worked as vice president and chief architect of Central Engineering, the group that built core IP for use across Broadcom’s product lines. He then moved to operations as senior vice president of operations engineering, responsible for worldwide manufacturing technology and for supporting every hardware program from inception through engineering samples into high-volume production. In 2016 he moved to Cadence Design Systems as senior vice president and general manager of its IP Group.
In 2017 he left to co-found Syntiant with Kurt Busch, now chief executive and board chair, Professor Jeremy Holleman and Dr. Stephen Bailey. Syntiant was incorporated in April 2017, and Vorenkamp has been chief operating officer since that May. In Busch’s telling, each founder brought a different capability: Holleman the early architecture, Bailey the software and system architecture, Busch the company-building and commercialization, and Vorenkamp the scaling of the technology into high-volume production. All four still work at the company. Syntiant designs neural decision processors, low-power chips that run AI on-device for speech, sound, vision and other signals. It later concluded that sensors needing dedicated processors made the sensors themselves worth owning, which led to the December 2024 acquisition of Knowles Corporation’s consumer MEMS microphone business. That deal brought manufacturing expertise and relationships with Tier-1 device makers, the side of the business closest to Vorenkamp’s background.
In 2026 Syntiant filed a registration statement to list its Class A shares on Nasdaq under the symbol SYTN. As of the latest filing read, the offering had not been priced.
Outside Syntiant, Vorenkamp is chairman of the board of directors of Spectricity, a technology company based in Mechelen, Belgium.
