Professional Journey
Maloney started out in public accounting at Arthur Andersen and moved into corporate finance at Dole Food Company, Republic Industries and Adaptive Broadband. He joined Keynote Systems, the NASDAQ-listed internet and mobile performance measurement company, in October 2001. Over the next four years he held senior positions there, including Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. It was an acquisitive period for the company, and Azul’s account of his career credits him with managing 11 acquisitions and 2 tender offers.
In January 2006 he became CFO of SNOCAP, a digital licensing and copyright management service for online music distribution. His time there overlapped with the start of his next role: E2open’s IPO prospectus records him as its Chief Financial Officer from January 2008 and at SNOCAP until April 2008. Maloney took E2open public. He signed its July 2012 registration statement as principal financial and accounting officer. Azul’s biography adds that he went on to lead a follow-on offering and the sale of the company.
He was next CFO of Jobvite, the recruiting software company, where he led business and financial strategy. In January 2021 Azul named him Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, announcing his appointment alongside that of CMO Andrew Savitz. The dual title reflects an unusually broad portfolio. Alongside financial strategy, planning and analysis, accounting, tax, treasury and investor relations, he is responsible for legal, human resources, business systems, DevOps and M&A. Azul’s pitch, as its CEO put it when announcing the appointment, is aimed at Oracle Java customers: switch to Azul to cut Java costs and get expert support. The company says its customers include 37% of the Fortune 100 and all ten of the world’s top ten trading companies.
He is a Certified Public Accountant.
