Professional Journey
Goepel’s career has been spent in payroll and human resources outsourcing. He spent eleven years at Ceridian, from 1994 to 2005, rising to Executive Vice President of Business Development and US Operations, where a 2015 biography says he was responsible for sales, marketing, operations and business development in the United States. He then served as President and CEO of Advantec from 2005 to 2006, and as President and CEO of Fidelity Investments’ Human Resource Services Division from 2006 to 2008. Before joining Asure he was Chief Operating Officer of Patersons Global Payroll.
He joined Asure Software’s board in August 2009. The company had previously traded as Forgent Networks and, before that, as VTEL. Within weeks he became interim CEO, on 15 September 2009, and he took the permanent role on 1 January 2010. The company describes his focus as building a platform that helps businesses manage payroll, HR and compliance, and a 2015 profile described his aim as building “an end-to-end business model that ensures predictable bookings and revenue growth”.
On 11 August 2020 he was also elected chairman. Because he holds both roles, the board appoints a lead independent director, currently Daniel Gill. Asure reported total revenue of $140.5 million for 2025, of which $127.3 million was recurring. For the second quarter of 2026 it reported $37.1 million, 23% more than a year earlier. He was re-elected a director at the May 2026 annual meeting. In the July 2026 results release the company identified him as Asure Chairman and CEO and said he would lead its earnings call.
Outside Asure, he was an independent director of Clearfield, Inc. from September 2015. He told Clearfield in December 2024 that he would not stand for re-election at its 2025 annual meeting. The company said the decision was not due to any disagreement and would let him focus more fully on other business opportunities and priorities. Asure’s 2026 proxy lists his current outside board seats as APPD Investments, Joynd Cloud Connectors, Summit Hosting Holdco, LLC and SafeGuard World International, Ltd. Earlier he served on the boards of iEmployee and of AllOver Media Holdings, which was sold to a private equity firm in March 2015.
