Professional Journey

Buffamonti began in professional services, holding various management positions at Deloitte LLP before joining Dynabrade. From the start of his time there he worked closely with founder Walter Welsch, who had developed the original Dynafile tool in 1968 and built the company from a single location in North Tonawanda into a global manufacturer with a headquarters in Clarence, subsidiaries in Luxembourg and India, and several hundred employees.

He rose to chief financial officer and became a long-standing member of the executive team. When the company announced his promotion in March 2021, it said he had been involved in every aspect of the business over a 25-year tenure and credited his leadership with a decade of the strongest financial performance in Dynabrade’s then 52-year history. Retiring president Hardy Hamann said he had “the trust and confidence of our employees”. Buffamonti said he was dedicated to the company’s success “for the benefit of our Welsch family shareholders and our valued employees” and wanted the company to “think big and act boldly”.

His tenure as president has been defined by vertical integration. In September 2021 Dynabrade acquired Manth Manufacturing, a Tonawanda CNC machine shop founded in 1962 that had supplied it for more than four decades, which he said would help the company build out its manufacturing team and scale production. In February 2023, now described as President and CEO, he announced the asset purchase of Global Abrasive Products, an abrasives converter with about 50 employees in Lockport, New York and Alpharetta, Georgia, as part of a strategy to expand vertical integration and deliver cost savings.

In August 2024 Dynabrade launched Autobrade, a subsidiary focused on robotic integration of automated surface conditioning, working with partners including FerRobotics and Maple Advanced Robotics. Buffamonti said the new business was committed to pushing the boundaries of automated surface conditioning. In 2025 the company put forward plans to expand its Sheridan Drive campus in Clarence.
