Professional Journey

Whitman was president and chief executive of eBay from 1998 to 2008, a period in which Albertsons’ release says the company’s annual revenue grew from $30 million to more than $8 billion. In September 2011 she became president and chief executive of Hewlett-Packard, and from July 2014 also its chair.

When Hewlett-Packard separated in November 2015 she became president and chief executive of Hewlett Packard Enterprise, remaining chief executive until February 2018. From March 2018 to February 2021 she was chief executive of Quibi, a Los Angeles-based entertainment startup, and from July 2022 to November 2024 she served as United States Ambassador to Kenya. On 8 September 2026 Albertsons appointed her to its board and elected her to the newly created role of executive chair, with former chair Kim Fennebresque becoming lead independent director.
