Professional Journey
Nolan studied mathematics and economics at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. He began his career in a leadership programme at Campbell’s Soup, an experience Redwood credits with steering him towards leading sales organisations in fast-growing technology companies.
Over more than 25 years in enterprise software he led sales teams at MicroStrategy, Qlik, BladeLogic, BMC, Fuze and Turbonomic. Two of those tenures ended in large acquisitions. At BladeLogic he supported its sale to BMC for more than $860 million. At Turbonomic he held a number of leadership positions and helped position the business for its $1.9 billion acquisition by IBM. Before Redwood he also worked with the founders of MEDDICC, the sales qualification methodology, and he continues to train and coach his teams on it.
He joined Redwood Software as SVP of Global Sales. Kevin Greene had become CEO in January 2022, and Redwood’s own account of that period lists Nolan among a group of senior appointments made to prepare the company for its next stage of growth, alongside a new chief technology officer, chief people officer, head of customer success and chief marketing officer. The company reported strong revenue acceleration in 2022 and then bought Tidal Software and the secure file transfer provider Cerberus in early 2023, adding to its 2020 purchase of JSCAPE.
Redwood now lists him as Chief Operating Officer. The company’s bio emphasises recruiting, converting sales organisations to value-based selling, and raising win rates and average selling prices.
