Professional Journey

McClelland spent the first long stretch of her career in private equity at Europa Capital, where 9fin says she worked for nine years.

She moved into operating finance as Chief Financial Officer of Fiit, which 9fin describes as a B2B SaaS fitness app, and supported the business through a period of 650% year-on-year growth. She then became Global Managing Director of Native Design.

9fin hired her as VP Finance in June 2024. The company, co-founded by chief executive Steven Hunter and chief technology officer Huss El-Sheikh, builds an AI-native intelligence platform covering leveraged finance, distressed debt, CLOs, private credit, asset-based finance and investment grade credit. Within her first six months she ran its Series B: a $50 million round led by Highland Europe, executed within three months and closed in December 2024. On 9 December 2024 9fin promoted her to Chief Financial Officer, giving her responsibility for building out an international finance function as the company expanded across the US and Europe; chief executive Steven Hunter called the promotion “a no-brainer”.

As CFO she has overseen a period of further growth. 9fin’s $170 million Series C, led by HarbourVest and reported by Bloomberg in March 2026, valued the company at $1.3 billion, and in July 2026 the company ran its first secondary share sale for employees at the same valuation. 9fin now says it serves more than 350 institutions with a team of more than 550.
