Executive Summary
Kabir Syed has spent his career on a single problem: insurance brokers sit on enormous quantities of data about their own books of business and have historically been unable to use it. He approached it first from inside the industry, as a managing director at Marsh responsible for operations and strategy in the global risk management segment, then as a founder. RiskMatch, which he started in Greenwich, Connecticut in 2013, gave intermediaries web-based portfolio management and placement analytics — the ability to see, in aggregate, what they were placing and where — and Vertafore acquired it in April 2017, keeping it as a standalone business unit and bringing Syed onto its executive team as Senior Vice President for Intelligence Solutions. Ennabl is the second attempt at the same problem with better tools. It has moved beyond dashboards into an AI workspace that reads agency documents, analyses the book of business and executes insurance workflows end to end, and it is reported to process $60 billion in premium.

Professional Journey
Syed’s grounding is in the broking business rather than in software. At Marsh he was a managing director with responsibility for operations and strategy in the global risk management segment — the part of the business that serves the largest and most complex corporate insureds. That vantage point exposed the structural gap he has worked on ever since. Brokers place enormous volumes of premium and accumulate detailed records of what was placed, with which carrier, at what price, against what exposure; but that information historically lived in policy administration systems designed to service transactions, not to answer questions about the portfolio as a whole.
RiskMatch, founded in 2013 and based in Greenwich, Connecticut, was the first attempt to close that gap. It delivered web-based portfolio management and placement solutions to insurance intermediaries and their underwriting partners across the United States — giving a broker the ability to see the shape of their own book, benchmark placements, and take that intelligence into carrier negotiations. It grew quickly enough to attract Vertafore, the dominant provider of agency management systems, which announced the acquisition on 25 April 2017. RiskMatch continued as a separate business unit and Syed joined Vertafore’s executive team, later serving as Senior Vice President for Intelligence Solutions — the natural role for someone whose company had just become the intelligence layer on top of Vertafore’s transactional systems.
He left to found Ennabl, returning to Greenwich and to the same customer. The difference is what the technology can now do. Where RiskMatch surfaced structured data in dashboards, Ennabl positions itself as an AI workspace built specifically for insurance agencies: it reads the unstructured documents that dominate the industry’s actual workflow — policies, submissions, loss runs, endorsements — analyses the book of business against them, and runs end-to-end workflows rather than merely reporting on them. The company has repositioned around this, moving to the ennabl.ai domain and presenting ennablAI as the current product with the earlier analytics platform retained as legacy EnnablDECISIONS. Its platform is reported to cover $60 billion in premium.
Alongside the operating work Syed has taken an industry-level position on transparency. He joined the board of Clearsurance, a consumer insurance review platform, in January 2019, framing the decision around the argument that the industry lacks the transparency consumers need in order to have real choice and easy access. He writes for Insurance Thought Leadership and appears frequently on podcasts aimed at commercial insurance producers.
