Professional Journey

Warren read Philosophy and History at Dartmouth and then took a Juris Doctor at New York University School of Law, beginning his working life at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. He moved from private practice into public service at the United States Department of the Treasury, and then into the markets themselves — first at the advisory firm Foros Group and at Barclays Capital. That sequence gave him the two things a strategy role at a large asset manager tends to require: transaction experience and a working understanding of how the regulatory machinery around funds actually operates.

He joined BlackRock in 2015 as a Managing Director in the Corporate Strategy and Development team, the group responsible for where the firm places its capital and which businesses it buys or builds. In 2021 he moved to the operating side of the largest of those businesses, becoming Managing Director and Global Head of Business Strategy for iShares and Index Investments, and held that post until 2023.

In 2023 he took his first CFO role, at Envestnet, the wealth-management technology platform, and served in it until 2025 — a stretch that included the company’s transition out of public ownership. That gave him a finance chief’s record in exactly the segment FactSet serves.
