Executive Summary

Jon Blotner is President, Commercial and Operations of Wayfair, the Boston-based online retailer of furniture and home goods listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Since January 2025 he has run the parts of the business that face the customer and the supplier, and the supply chain that connects them: Wayfair’s specialty brands, its luxury marketplace Perigold, its B2B business, and its marketing, merchandising, pricing, category and physical retail functions, together with logistics and customer service. He is one of four named executive officers alongside co-founder and CEO Niraj Shah, and he reached the role from inside the company, having joined in 2016 and served as Chief Commercial Officer before the two halves of the business were combined under him.

Career Highlights

  • President, Commercial and Operations of Wayfair since 1 January 2025, a role created as the company integrated its commercial and supply chain organisations.
  • Chief Commercial Officer of Wayfair from October 2023 to January 2025.
  • Earlier at Wayfair, Vice President, Global Merchandising, Proprietary Brands, Pricing and Advertising, with oversight of its exclusive and specialty retail brands including AllModern, Joss & Main and Birch Lane.
  • President of Gemvara.com until its acquisition by Berkshire Hathaway in 2016.
  • Began his career at Bain & Company in Boston.
  • MBA from Harvard Business School and BA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Professional Journey

Blotner studied at the University of Pennsylvania and took an MBA at Harvard Business School. He worked at Bain & Company in Boston before becoming President of Gemvara.com, which he led until Berkshire Hathaway acquired it in 2016.

He joined Wayfair the same year. He has held a variety of leadership roles there, including Vice President, Global Merchandising, Proprietary Brands, Pricing and Advertising. The remit was broad: Wayfair’s exclusive brands and specialty retail brands, including AllModern, Joss & Main and Birch Lane, along with global merchandising, pricing, visual media, 3D operations and technology, merchandising as a service, advertising, and supplier acquisition and onboarding.

In October 2023 he became Chief Commercial Officer. A year later, in November 2024, Wayfair announced that Chief Operating Officer Thomas Netzer would step down at the end of the year and that Blotner would take on a new role, President, Commercial and Operations, from 1 January 2025. The company framed the change as structural rather than a simple succession: customer- and supplier-facing work and supply chain capabilities would sit together under one leader instead of in parallel organisations.

In that role Blotner oversees the global retail businesses, meaning the specialty brands, Perigold and B2B, along with marketing, retail media, merchandising, pricing, category management and physical retail. He also directs operations: the global supply chain, Wayfair’s own end-to-end logistics network and its customer service organisation. Wayfair’s filings list him as a named executive officer alongside Niraj Shah, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer Kate Gulliver, and Chief Technology Officer Fiona Tan.
