Professional Journey

Diez studied accounting at Florida International University, earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, and began his career in the audit practice of KPMG, where he rose to audit senior manager.

He joined Ryder in 2002 and spent his early years there in finance, as assistant controller, senior vice president of asset management, chief financial officer of the Fleet Management Solutions segment and senior vice president of field finance. He then moved into operating roles, first as president of the Dedicated Transportation Solutions business, which supplies trucks and professional drivers to customers under contract, and then as president of Fleet Management Solutions, Ryder’s largest segment, covering leasing, maintenance and commercial truck rental. He has been a member of Ryder’s leadership team since 2015.

In May 2021 Ryder named him Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, responsible for all of the company’s financial functions including corporate strategy and investor relations. After more than three years in that role he was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer effective January 1, 2025, with general management of all three business segments, a move Ryder presented as part of its practice of developing leaders through rotational assignments.

In December 2025 Ryder announced that Sanchez would retire as chief executive and that Diez would succeed him. He became Chief Executive Officer and joined the board on March 31, 2026. In the announcement he pointed to the increasing complexity of supply chains and demand for Ryder’s port-to-door services as the company’s main opportunity, and his first results as CEO emphasised execution on the company’s strategic initiatives.

Beyond Ryder, he serves on the board of Trinity Industries, Inc. and on the boards of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Jackson Health Foundation.
