Professional Journey
Bonney’s career has been spent in software finance. He was a senior finance executive at Ariba, the procurement software company, and helped drive its expansion up to and through its $4.3 billion sale to SAP. He moved into SAP with the deal, becoming Division CFO of its Cloud Business unit, where Harness later described him as overseeing more than $1 billion of cloud revenues across multiple business units, products and geographies.
He then became chief financial officer of growth-stage companies. At FinancialForce, the cloud ERP and professional services automation vendor, revenues quadrupled to more than $100 million during his tenure. He was also CFO of Mapbox, the mapping and location data platform.
In May 2019 Harness, then a San Francisco continuous delivery startup led by AppDynamics founder Jyoti Bansal, announced that he had joined as Chief Financial Officer to scale its finance and accounting function. The appointment followed Harness’s $60 million Series B from IVP, GV and ServiceNow Ventures, and Bansal said the company would need his experience “to prepare us for our next growth milestones.” Temporal announced him as its Chief Financial Officer on 1 October 2025, in the same post that disclosed a $105 million secondary led by GIC at a $2.5 billion valuation and named former VMware CFO Jonathan Chadwick to its board. Temporal, founded in 2019 by Samar Abbas and Maxim Fateev, sells durable execution: infrastructure that preserves application state and retries failed steps so that long-running workflows, including multi-step AI agents, finish reliably. Its fundraising accelerated after he joined. It raised a $300 million Series D led by Andreessen Horowitz at a $5 billion valuation in February 2026, then a $550 million Series E at $12.55 billion in September 2026, which GeekWire reported brought its total capital raised to $1.2 billion.
