Hedberg earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. Tandy puts his wholesale and retail leadership experience at more than 30 years.

From January 2013 to July 2019 he was Vice President Sales and Marketing for Region Europe and Rest of World at Thule Group. He then moved to Fiskars Group in July 2019 as Senior Vice President Global Sales for its BA Vita business. He became Global Chief Sales Officer in April 2020. From September 2021 until December 2023 he was Chief Sales Officer and President, Americas.

Tandy Leather Factory appointed him Chief Executive Officer and a director effective 6 January 2025. He succeeded Janet Carr, who had led the company for six years and stayed through March 2025 to help with the transition. Chairman Jeff Gramm said Carr had judged the planned sale of the Fort Worth property and the headquarters move a good moment for a change of leader. On taking the job, Hedberg said he looked forward “to grow sales and continue to reach new customers as we move to our new facilities and the next chapter in Tandy’s story.”

The property sale closed on 22 January 2025 for $26.5 million gross, and the company paid shareholders a special dividend in early 2025. In June 2026 the board named John Gehre Chairman, succeeding Jefferson Gramm, who had chaired it since 2017.
