Professional Journey
Malave earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics at the University of Connecticut, a master’s in accounting at the University of Hartford and a law degree at the University of Connecticut School of Law. He began his career as a compliance analyst at the U.S. Department of Labor, according to his Boeing biography.
He spent more than 20 years at United Technologies and Pratt & Whitney. He was UTC’s head of investor relations from 2012 to 2014, vice president and chief financial officer of UTC Aerospace Systems from 2015 to 2018, and vice president and CFO of Carrier, then a UTC unit, from 2018 to 2019.
In June 2019 he became senior vice president and chief financial officer of L3Harris Technologies, and in January 2022 chief financial officer of Lockheed Martin, where he oversaw financial reporting and investor relations and worked on its growth strategy and acquisitions. He left Lockheed Martin in April 2025.
Boeing appointed him executive vice president and chief financial officer in August 2025. He sits on Boeing’s Executive Council and signs its annual report as CFO. Boeing builds commercial airplanes and defense, space and security systems and provides aerospace services, and employs about 182,000 people, according to the company. He is also a director of GE Vernova, the power equipment company spun off from General Electric.
His remit includes the controller function. In August 2026 Boeing named Ryan Shedd, an Ernst & Young assurance partner, as its next senior vice president and controller, to succeed the retiring Michael Cleary once the 2026 annual report is filed. On the Executive Council he sits alongside Kelly Ortberg and the heads of Boeing’s three businesses.
