Executive Summary
Heather Getz is Chief Executive Officer and a director of TELA Bio, the Nasdaq-listed Malvern, Pennsylvania medical technology company that describes its focus as technologies that prioritise the preservation and restoration of the patient’s own anatomy. She took over on 4 August 2026 from co-founder Antony Koblish, who had led the company since 2012. Her appointment brings a finance and operations executive into the top job: she spent most of her career as a public-company chief financial officer in medical technology, most notably twelve years at BioTelemetry and three at Butterfly Network. Within a month of arriving she had also become TELA Bio’s principal financial officer and overseen a reduction of about a fifth of its workforce.
Career Highlights
- Appointed Chief Executive Officer and a Class II director of TELA Bio effective 4 August 2026; named principal financial officer as well on 31 August 2026, when the company’s CFO and COO stepped down.
- Chief Financial and Operations Officer and Corporate Secretary of Butterfly Network (NYSE: BFLY) from May 2022 until retiring in August 2025.
- Chief Financial Officer and President of North America at Healthy.io, a privately held medical technology company, from November 2021 to April 2022.
- At BioTelemetry from 2009 to 2021: Vice President Finance, then Chief Financial Officer for nine years, then Chief Financial and Administrative Officer through the company’s 2021 sale to Philips.
- Director of Myomo since March 2024, chairing its Audit Committee, and a director and Audit Committee chair at Vital Connect.
Professional Journey
Getz trained as an accountant at Villanova University, where she also took an MBA, and qualified as a certified public accountant. Her early career ran through finance leadership roles at Sunoco, VIASYS Healthcare and Alita Pharmaceuticals.
In May 2009 she joined BioTelemetry, a publicly traded medical technology company, as Vice President Finance. She became Chief Financial Officer in January 2010 and held the post for nine years, then became Chief Financial and Administrative Officer in January 2019. TELA Bio’s filing on her appointment credits her with a central part in turning the company around and growing it from a market capitalization of $50 million to $2.8 billion when Royal Philips bought it in 2021. The same filing says that across her career she has helped lead the acquisition or integration of more than 40 companies and secured more than $1 billion of financing.
After the Philips sale she spent six months as Chief Financial Officer and President of North America at Healthy.io, a private medical technology company, before joining Butterfly Network, the NYSE-listed medical technology company, in May 2022. There she was Chief Financial and Operations Officer and Corporate Secretary until she retired in August 2025. In March 2024 she joined the board of Myomo, Inc., where she chairs the Audit Committee; she also chairs the Audit Committee of Vital Connect.
TELA Bio’s board appointed her Chief Executive Officer on 3 August 2026, effective the next day, after deciding that Koblish would no longer serve. Board chairman Joseph Capper pointed to her record of operational discipline and value creation. Getz said the company had “a differentiated portfolio, a strong commercial foundation”, and that she intended to accelerate commercial execution. On 31 August the company announced a cost-reduction plan cutting its workforce from 201 to 160 full-time employees, and on the departure of its CFO and COO the board made Getz principal financial officer as well. In September the company disclosed a Nasdaq notice that its shares faced delisting for trading below $1.00, and called a special meeting to approve a reverse stock split.
