Professional Journey
Porporino is a Montreal native who began at UPS in 1989 as a preloader, the job of sorting packages onto delivery vehicles before the day’s routes go out, and then moved into a driver’s seat. Over the following 28 years he worked his way through the operations hierarchy in Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto: on-road supervisor, preload manager, gateway manager, international hub manager, centre manager and director of operations.
In 2011 he took a special assignment coordinating UPS’s expansion in Atlantic Canada, and in 2013 he became vice-president of operations for UPS Canada. In April 2017 he was promoted to vice president of operations at UPS’s European headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, his first posting outside Canada.
He returned to Canada in early 2019 when UPS named him president of UPS Canada, announced on the unit’s 44th anniversary. He was the second Canadian-born president of the Canadian business and its ninth president overall, taking over as UPS was investing heavily in the country, including $500 million in 2018 for facility expansions in Montreal and Caledon and technology upgrades.
UPS now identifies him as its East Region President. In a July 2026 company story recognising top-performing operations leaders, he is quoted praising the East region’s No. 1 division manager and his team for having “demonstrated resilience” and “led through change with confidence”. The date of his move from Canada to the East Region role has not been established.
