Professional Journey

Ritter took a Bachelor of Science in Finance at Western Michigan University and built the early part of his career across accounting firms and corporate finance roles before joining AlixPartners. He qualified as a Certified Public Accountant and later as a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor, the specialist credential for practitioners working on distressed companies.

At AlixPartners he spent eleven years on the client side. The firm’s Turnaround & Restructuring Services practice is its historical core — the work of stabilising companies in or near insolvency, forecasting cash to the week, and negotiating with lenders — and Ritter worked there before moving into Risk Advisory, where the assignments run to forensic accounting, investigations and due diligence. His engagements reached Fortune Global 500 clients and included supporting companies through SEC investigations, across automotive, retail, manufacturing, professional services, technology and restaurant sectors.

He then moved from serving clients to running the firm, taking responsibility for firmwide planning, investments, real estate operations, global services and procurement. That portfolio is effectively the operating spine of a professional services business, and it positioned him as the internal candidate when the CFO role opened.

In August 2022 AlixPartners named him Chief Financial Officer, succeeding Lisa Carnoy, who had held the role for roughly four years and left to lead Columbia University’s presidential search. Announcing the appointment, the firm’s then chief executive Simon Freakley pointed to Ritter’s deep understanding of the business and its clients alongside his technical expertise — a way of saying that the firm valued having a CFO who had done the consulting work rather than only the accounting.
