Professional Journey

Bastek earned a bachelor’s degree in communications at San Diego State University. He began his career in 1989 at Maintenance Warehouse, later known as HD Supply, which The Home Depot acquired in 1997. He held roles including global product merchant, senior merchant, divisional merchandise manager and merchandising vice president for building materials.

From December 2013 he was Merchandising Vice President for hardware and tools, where he oversaw the power tools and automotive departments in stores and online. In January 2019 he became Senior Vice President of Merchandising for Hardlines, responsible for merchandising and marketing for the hardware and garden departments.

He became Executive Vice President – Merchandising in March 2023. In 2026 he assumed responsibility for the company’s product development merchant portfolio, including private brands.
