Professional Journey

Tohme trained as a mechanical engineer, taking a bachelor’s degree at the University of Kentucky and then a master’s and doctorate at the University of Florida. His early industrial career was in ultra-precision manufacturing: he held research and development leadership roles of increasing responsibility at Moore Nanotechnology Systems, a maker of precision machining systems. In January 2011 he became Chief Technology Officer of Rochester Precision Optics, which develops lightweight electro-optical products.

Six months later, in June 2011, he joined FARO Technologies, the Florida-based maker of 3D measurement and imaging equipment, as Director of Engineering, 3D Imaging. He became Vice President, Engineering, Metrology Technologies in January 2014, Senior Vice President, R&D, Group 1 in March 2017, and Chief Research and Development Officer in March 2019, when he became an executive officer of the Nasdaq-listed company. FARO’s April 2020 proxy statement lists him among its five executive officers.

That role was short-lived. On August 24, 2020, FARO decided to eliminate the position of Chief R&D Officer, and its filings record that his employment in the role ended in late August, with a transition period as an employee through the end of October 2020. He then moved to Harman International as VP Advanced Mobility Solutions from 2021 to 2022.

He joined Datacolor in 2022 as Executive Vice President of R&D and Operations, taking a seat on the executive board. Datacolor has been in color management for more than fifty years and sells in over 100 countries. At the time he joined it was listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange; after majority shareholder Werner Dubach’s 2023 tender offer and a court-approved cancellation of the remaining shares, it was delisted on April 19, 2024 and is now privately held. Datacolor now names him Chief Technology Officer. In his company biography he describes his aim as building a culture that “promotes creativity and empowers employees to take calculated risks and experiment with new ideas.”
