Executive Summary

William “Bill” Scannell is President and Chief Customer Officer of Dell Technologies, a role created for him in January 2026 to work directly with Dell’s largest customers and partners on strategy and major initiatives. He has spent more than four decades in enterprise technology sales, all of it at EMC and then Dell: he joined EMC as a sales representative in 1986, ran its regions in Canada, the Americas and Europe, and led its global sales from 2012. After Dell bought EMC in 2016 he ran Dell’s combined sales force until early 2026. He also sits on the board of Snowflake. Professional Journey

Scannell earned a bachelor’s degree in business management at Northeastern University. He joined EMC as a sales representative in 1986 and became its country manager for Canada in 1988, soon adding responsibility for the United States and Latin America.

In 1999 he moved to London to run EMC’s business across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and in 2001 and 2002 he managed worldwide sales. He became an executive vice president in 2007 and, after overseeing customer operations in the Americas and EMEA, was appointed president of global sales and customer operations in July 2012, coordinating the business-unit sales forces and EMC’s largest global accounts, alliances and channel partners.

Dell acquired EMC in September 2016. From September 2017 Scannell led Dell’s global enterprise sales and customer operations, serving large enterprises and public institutions, and from February 2020 he was president of global sales and customer operations for the whole company, responsible for its go-to-market strategy.

In January 2026 he became President and Chief Customer Officer, a role focused on customers and partners, and Pete Trizzino took over global sales. Outside Dell he is a director of Snowflake, the cloud data platform company, and sits on the advisory board of IonQ, a quantum computing company.

Dell’s 2026 proxy lists him among the named executive officers for fiscal 2026 under his former title, President, Global Sales and Customer Operations, and notes the change to President and Chief Customer Officer for fiscal 2027. Dell’s biography describes his approach as customer-first and says he is known for structuring strategic partnerships.
