Executive Summary

Wain Kellum is Chief Executive Officer of Canto, the Atlanta-headquartered digital asset management company whose software lets organisations store, organise and share their brand content. He took the job in November 2022 as an experienced operator of investor-backed software companies: over the preceding fifteen years he had run Omnilink Systems, sold Vocalocity to Vonage for $130 million, run Vonage’s small-business unit, and led SpaceIQ through a Thoma Bravo-backed merger. At Canto he has followed a similar playbook, adding two acquisitions and extending the product from asset management into product information management.

Career Highlights

  • Chief Executive Officer of Canto since November 2022.
  • Led Canto’s acquisitions of MerlinOne, a Massachusetts AI and visual search DAM company, in 2023, and Image Relay, a Vermont DAM and PIM provider, in September 2024.
  • Launched Canto PIM, combining digital asset and product information management, in December 2024.
  • CEO of SpaceIQ, and of the company formed when it combined with iOFFICE under Thoma Bravo in August 2021, until February 2022.
  • CEO of Vocalocity from February 2010 until its $130 million acquisition by Vonage, announced in October 2013.
  • President, Vonage Business Solutions, from November 2013 to January 2015, then Strategic Advisor for business services.
  • CEO of Omnilink Systems from 2007 to 2010.
  • Director of several private software companies, including CallRail and Avoxi, according to SEC filings.

Professional Journey

Kellum began his career in enterprise software sales and product management at Management Science America, then worked as a manufacturing consultant at Ernst & Young and as a business strategist at Dun & Bradstreet Software. He went on to start his own company, which he eventually sold to Hewlett-Packard.

From 2007 to 2010 he was chief executive of Omnilink Systems, based in Alpharetta, Georgia. Vonage’s 2014 proxy statement credits him, in that part of his career, with completing equity transactions with companies including Microsoft and HP. In February 2010 he became CEO of Vocalocity, an Atlanta software-as-a-service provider of hosted voice communications for small and medium-sized businesses. In October 2013 Vonage agreed to buy Vocalocity for $105 million in cash and $25 million in Vonage stock, calling it the vehicle for its entry into the small-business market. Kellum said the combination would deliver “the scale, quality and feature set to best serve customers.” He joined Vonage when the deal closed in November 2013 as President of Vonage Business Solutions, a member of the senior leadership team. In January 2015 Vonage moved him into a role as Strategic Advisor for business services, reporting to CEO Alan Masarek.

He next appears as chief executive of SpaceIQ, an Atlanta workplace-management software company whose majority investor was JMI Equity, for which he also served as an operating advisor. In August 2021 Thoma Bravo combined SpaceIQ with Houston-based iOFFICE, and Kellum stayed on as CEO of the merged business, saying Thoma Bravo’s record gave it “experience, scale, and product capability that no other vendor in our industry comes close to matching.” In February 2022 Brandon Holden succeeded him, with Kellum working through the handover.

Canto named him CEO on 17 November 2022, describing him as having spent 30 years building software companies as their chief executive and as an investor in and board member of more than a dozen companies. Canto, founded in 1988, is headquartered in Atlanta with offices in Berlin and Sydney. Under Kellum it bought MerlinOne in 2023, which he called “a game changer” for its AI and visual search capabilities, and Image Relay in 2024. In December 2024 it launched Canto PIM, arguing that “siloed approaches to digital asset and product information management cannot keep pace” with the growth in content marketers now have to manage.

Alongside his operating roles, SEC filings show him as a director of a series of private software companies, many of them in the Atlanta area, including CallRail and Avoxi.
