Professional Journey

Dunlap trained as an engineer, earning a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and added a second bachelor’s degree, in business administration, from Park University. His early technology career included leading the Internet Business Unit at WRQ, a global software and consulting firm.

He then spent 14 years at Microsoft. His roles there included President and General Manager of Microsoft Licensing and, most senior, Vice President and COO of the Consumer & Online Division, in which capacity he helped launch the original Xbox.

In 2012 he joined Booking.com as its first managing director for the United States, helping open the market. He stayed for about nine years, as Vice President and Managing Director of the Americas and then as CEO of North America, responsible for the company’s growth in the US and Canada, and also held a Booking Holdings role setting strategy across its North American brands, among them Priceline, Kayak and OpenTable. He remains a strategic advisor to Booking Holdings.

OfferUp hired him as chief executive in 2021. Co-founder Nick Huzar kept the president and board chair titles at the time and became chief product officer. Under Dunlap, OfferUp has broadened into what he describes as local commerce, adding jobs, services and rentals in 2024 and setting 2025 priorities around access to local resources, support for small businesses and community connection.

Alongside OfferUp he sits on the board of Better Collective, which he first advised before joining its board in 2020, and serves on its remuneration committee. He is also a guest lecturer and mentor at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business.
