Executive Summary
Ross Meyercord is Chief Executive Officer of Propel Software, which sells what it calls product value management — a single system of record running from concept through to customer, combining product lifecycle management and quality management for high technology, medical device and consumer goods manufacturers. The reason the category exists is that product data has traditionally lived in engineering systems that nobody in sales, service or marketing can reach, so the same product ends up described differently in the CAD system, the quality system, the ERP and the customer-facing catalogue. Propel’s answer was to build on Salesforce’s platform, putting the product record next to the customer record. Meyercord’s background maps onto that bet almost exactly: he spent five years as Salesforce’s own Global Chief Information Officer during the period it grew from $2.5 billion to over $10 billion in revenue, two further years running sales there, and twenty-two years before that at Accenture implementing large transformation programmes for technology and communications clients.

Professional Journey
Meyercord spent the first two decades of his career at Accenture, working as a consultant and then a partner in the Communications & High Tech group on large-scale transformation programmes. That is where he built the pattern that recurs throughout his career — being the person who has actually implemented the systems he later sells or buys — including direct work with manufacturers deploying product lifecycle management and quality management systems.
In July 2012 he joined Salesforce as Global Chief Information Officer. The role was an unusual one, because Salesforce’s own IT organisation is simultaneously a customer of the company’s products and a proving ground for them, and because the company was growing at a rate that made every internal system a capacity problem. Over five years he built the architecture, processes and organisation to support a business that went from $2.5 billion to more than $10 billion in annual revenue.
He then moved across from IT into the revenue organisation, spending two years as Executive Vice President of Sales at Salesforce, with responsibility spanning sales, service and platform software. Few executives make that crossing; it gave him an unusual combination of buyer-side and seller-side experience in enterprise software.
From Salesforce he went to Pluralsight as Chief Revenue Officer, taking charge of a 900-person global organisation generating more than $500 million in annual recurring revenue — a scale operation in the technology skills and workforce development market.
Propel named him Chief Executive Officer on 30 November 2022. Co-founder Ray Hein, who had led the company to that point, moved to Chief Strategy Officer. Meyercord framed the opportunity in terms of Propel offering the only true concept-to-customer product record on a single platform, which is the company’s central strategic claim. Since taking the role he has remained a visible commentator on the CIO’s changing job, publishing regularly on sustainable IT, technology leadership and digital transformation.
