Professional Journey
Fernandez studied economics at the University of Maryland. In 1991 he founded Proxicom, which became a prominent early provider of e-commerce solutions to Fortune 500 companies. He guided it to a NASDAQ listing in 1999. Dimension Data then acquired it, and from 2000 to 2002 he was Chief Executive Officer of Dimension Data North America, also joining the parent company’s board in 2001.
He went on to lead ObjectVideo as Chairman and CEO. The company developed intelligent video surveillance software and was sold to Alarm.com in 2017. He also served on President George W. Bush’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. He is Vice Chairman and co-owner of Monumental Sports & Entertainment, the partnership that owns several of Washington, D.C.’s major sports franchises.
He built a long public-company board record alongside that work. He sat on the board of Kate Spade & Co. from 2000 until Coach acquired it in 2017, on GameStop’s board from 2019 to 2021, and on Broadcom’s from 2020 to 2024. He joined DXC’s board in August 2020.
In December 2023 DXC’s board made him Interim President and CEO, and on 1 February 2024 the appointment became permanent. DXC describes itself as a technology and innovation partner to global enterprises and public-sector organisations, with expertise in managed infrastructure services, application modernisation and industry-specific software. Under Fernandez it has pursued what it calls a dual Core and Fast Track strategy, the latter aimed at bringing AI-enabled platforms to market.
In July 2026 he reorganised the top of the company. Paul Taylor, previously chief executive of HUB Platform Technology Partner, was named President of DXC, taking over the title from Fernandez and becoming the executive to whom DXC’s three offering presidents report. Fernandez continues as Chief Executive Officer. He said the appointments put “new AI-centric leadership front and center at DXC”. He also sits on the board of the TikTok USDS Joint Venture, where he chairs the Security Committee.
Outside business he co-founded Venture Philanthropy Partners in 2000 and serves on the boards of DC-CAP and the Fernandez Foundation.
