Professional Journey

Vemana earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering at the University of Madras and an MBA at MIT’s Sloan School of Management. He held digital leadership positions at Staples and The Home Depot, according to his Target biography.

At Kaiser Permanente he held various leadership positions, including senior vice president and chief digital officer from July 2019 to October 2022. There he led enterprise product management, consumer experience and technology teams, drove the digital strategy and the rollout of telehealth for on-demand care, and ran the CTO office, with responsibility for enterprise architecture, governance, technology vision and cloud modernization.

He joined Target in October 2022 as executive vice president and chief digital and product officer. In that role, according to Target, he revamped digital guest experiences, expanded the Target Plus marketplace, sped up digital fulfillment and set up the company’s enterprise product operating model and user-experience practices.

In February 2025 his title became chief information and product officer, with responsibility for all of Target’s technology, including cybersecurity, data platforms, data science and infrastructure, and for its use of automation, data and AI across guests, team members and vendors. He has also served on the board of Frontier Communications.

Technology is one of four priorities named in Target’s fiscal 2025 annual report, which commits to advancing technology, data and operational capabilities to enable personalization, improve execution and support growth. The same report discusses the competitive and reputational risks of artificial intelligence, the area his teams are applying across the business.
