Professional Journey
Occhiogrosso started out in engineering. He worked as an engineer and product manager at two enterprise software start-ups, which AppOmni’s announcement does not name, before moving into venture capital. There he held investment leadership roles at Highland Capital Partners, Costanoa Ventures and Johns Hopkins University, backing more than 30 early- and growth-stage companies. The portfolio he is credited with includes 2U, Gigamon, Acquia, Kenna Security and Turbonomic. Bugcrowd, the crowdsourced security testing company, listed him as a director in its March 2018 Form D filing.
AppOmni was founded in 2018 by Brendan O’Connor and Brian Soby and is a pioneer of SaaS Security Posture Management: protecting the business applications that enterprises run as cloud services from data breaches. Occhiogrosso worked with the company as an investor and advisor from the start. When he joined full-time in November 2022, he said it had been clear from the beginning that SaaS security would be one of the fastest-growing areas of cybersecurity. He became its first chief operating officer, and O’Connor, then chief executive, described the job as maturing and transforming company operations to keep pace with its growth.
He then succeeded O’Connor as chief executive, with O’Connor becoming Chief Strategy Officer. AppOmni’s public statements show that O’Connor was still CEO in July 2025 and that Occhiogrosso held the title by June 2026. No announcement between those dates has been found. As CEO he leads a company that describes itself as a leader in SaaS and AI security, has reached FedRAMP authorisation for federal agencies, and has extended its platform to agentic AI, including the Marlin AI engine it launched in May 2026. On receiving the 2026 Intellyx Digital Innovator Award, he said the company applies “the same rigor to AI security that we pioneered in SaaS security in 2018”. AppOmni’s backers include Cisco Investments, Salesforce Ventures, ServiceNow Ventures, Scale Venture Partners, Thoma Bravo, ClearSky and Costanoa Ventures.
