Executive Summary

Michael W. Wallace is Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Spok Holdings, Inc., the Plano, Texas company whose clinical communication products — paging, secure messaging, contact centre and critical alerting software — are used by hospitals, government agencies and public safety organisations. He is also President of Spok, Inc., the operating subsidiary. A finance executive by background, he joined Spok as CFO in 2017, moved into operations as COO in 2020, and in April 2026 took the CFO role back on top of his operating responsibilities when Spok restructured to cut costs.

Career Highlights

  • Chief Operating Officer of Spok Holdings since January 2020, with responsibility for operations, professional services, marketing and maintenance and customer support.
  • President of Spok, Inc., Spok’s wholly owned operating subsidiary, since August 2022.
  • Chief Financial Officer of Spok from March 2017 to 2022, and again from April 14, 2026, when he replaced Calvin C. Rice as part of a strategic realignment.
  • EVP and Chief Financial Officer of Intermedix, a Thomas H. Lee Partners-owned healthcare revenue cycle and data analytics company, from 2013 to 2017.
  • Earlier CFO roles at The Elephant Group (Saveology.com), Radiology Corporation of America, Inktel Direct, CELLIT Technologies and Kellstrom Industries.
  • Former Assistant Chief Accountant in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement and member of its Financial Fraud Task Force.

Professional Journey

Wallace studied business administration at the University of Notre Dame and spent more than seven years at KPMG Peat Marwick in Miami. He then became chief financial officer of Kellstrom Industries, a publicly held aerospace company, and later held the CFO role at CELLIT Technologies, a contact-centre software company, and Inktel Direct, a direct marketing service firm.

He also spent a period on the regulatory side, as an Assistant Chief Accountant in the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement and a member of the Commission’s Financial Fraud Task Force in Washington, D.C. Afterwards he returned to company finance as Senior Vice President and CFO of Radiology Corporation of America, a provider of mobile and fixed-site PET imaging, then as Executive Vice President and CFO of The Elephant Group, the online direct-to-consumer marketer that traded as Saveology.com. From 2013 to 2017 he was Executive Vice President and CFO of Intermedix, a healthcare revenue cycle, practice management and emergency management software company owned by Thomas H. Lee Partners.

He joined Spok as Chief Financial Officer in March 2017. In January 2020 he was also made Chief Operating Officer, and in August 2022 the company promoted him to President of Spok, Inc., handing the CFO job to Calvin Rice. Chief executive Vincent Kelly said at the time that Wallace’s knowledge of the business as both CFO and COO made him the right person to shape strategy as the company sought to maximise revenue and cash from its established lines of business.

Spok’s revenue has been broadly flat for several years — $139.7 million in 2025, up 1.5% — as wireless paging revenue attrition is set against its Care Connect software suite, while the company continues to pay a quarterly dividend. In April 2026 the company announced a strategic realignment targeting more than $6 million in annual savings and a workforce reduction of about 10%, focusing on AI enhancements to Care Connect and its wireless service. As part of that change the board appointed Wallace Chief Financial Officer in addition to his operating role, consolidating the two positions. Spok describes him as having more than 30 years as a financial and operational executive, and as a licensed Certified Public Accountant.
