Debel earned a BS in finance, magna cum laude, from the State University of New York at Albany and an MBA in finance from Fordham University, according to MetLife. She spent 20 years at Merrill Lynch in leadership positions including assistant treasurer and, after Bank of America acquired Merrill Lynch, was Bank of America’s global head of liquidity risk management and rating agency relations.

From July 2016 she was chief financial officer of the U.S. business, including MetLife Holdings.

She became chief risk officer in May 2019 and added MetLife Insurance Investments in September 2023. She serves on the boards of Raymond James Financial and the LaGuardia Community College Foundation.
