Professional Journey
Nelson earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at California Polytechnic State University and joined Chevron U.S.A. in 1985 as an engineer in San Ramon. He went on to lead Chevron Canada, International Products, strategic planning, and midstream, strategy and policy.
He was Executive Vice President of Downstream & Chemicals from 2019 to 2022 and then of Strategy, Policy & Development. He became Vice Chairman in February 2023 and took responsibility for Oil, Products & Gas in October 2024. He serves on the board of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
