Professional Journey
Wengel earned a BSE in civil engineering and operations research at Princeton University. She joined Johnson & Johnson in 1988 as a project engineer and engineering supervisor at Janssen and went on to hold leadership roles in operations, quality, engineering, new products and information technology, among other technical and business functions.
She became the company’s first chief quality officer and then its chief global supply chain officer, a role she held for nine years, joining the executive committee in 2018 as executive vice president. J&J says that under her leadership it has held a top-five position on Gartner’s Supply Chain Top 25 ranking. In 2019 the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals gave her its Distinguished Service Award and elected her to the Supply Chain Hall of Fame, and in 2015 she received a Women of Excellence Award from the National Association of Female Executives.
In 2023 she became executive vice president, chief technical operations and risk officer, responsible for engineering and property services, the global sustainability organization, cross-sector supply chain teams for standards, services, transportation and trade controls, and the risk functions of quality and compliance, health care compliance, global security and global brand protection.
Outside J&J she is a director of Labcorp, the National Association of Manufacturers and GS1 Global, the standards body behind barcodes. Inside the company she is executive sponsor of the Women’s Leadership & Inclusion initiative and of WiSTEM2D, a program encouraging women in science, technology, engineering, math, manufacturing and design.
By start date she is the longest-serving member of J&J’s executive committee, having joined in 1988, a year before chief executive Joaquin Duato.
