Executive Summary
Justin Oesterle is Chief Executive Officer of RouteOne, the Farmington Hills, Michigan company whose platform connects car dealers, finance sources and technology providers across North America for credit applications, eContracting, F&I menus and compliance at the point of sale. RouteOne is unusual in its ownership. It was set up in 2002 as a joint venture by four captive and bank auto lenders that compete with one another, now Ally Financial, Ford Motor Credit, TD Auto Finance and Toyota Financial Services, and its board is still made up of their representatives. Oesterle has been there from the beginning. He joined in June 2002 as the first team member who did not come from one of the owners, and the board made him CEO in 2016.
Career Highlights
- Chief Executive Officer of RouteOne since June 2016, when its board of directors named him to succeed Mike Jurecki.
- Joined RouteOne in June 2002 as Program Director, the first member of its team not drawn from the owning captive finance companies.
- Served as RouteOne’s Chief Information Officer, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Strategic Alliances, and Vice President of Operations and Program Management.
- Named Chairman and CEO of RouteOne Canada when he became CEO in 2016.
- Previously a senior manager at Deloitte Consulting, focused on captive finance organizations.
Professional Journey
Oesterle studied at the University of Michigan, earning a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA with concentrations in finance and strategy. He then joined Deloitte Consulting, where as a senior manager he worked with captive finance organizations, the lending arms of vehicle manufacturers, on system transformation and process redesign.
That work led to RouteOne. In 2002 GMAC, Ford Motor Credit, DaimlerChrysler Financial and Toyota Financial Services formed RouteOne as a joint venture to improve the F&I process for automobile dealers and their customers. Oesterle joined in June 2002 as Program Director. The company says he was the first member of the team who was not drawn from one of the founding captives. Over the following years he ran the technology as Chief Information Officer and also led sales, marketing and strategic alliances, and operations and program management. In that period the network grew to cover credit, eContracting and point-of-sale tools, with more than 125 integration partners by 2016.
In June 2016 RouteOne’s board named him Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Mike Jurecki, and he was also named Chairman and CEO of RouteOne Canada. “RouteOne is very fortunate to be on excellent strategic and operational footing thanks to Mike Jurecki’s leadership, an outstanding team of leaders, and the support of our Owners,” he said at the time.
The owners’ names have changed since 2002 (GMAC became Ally Financial, and DaimlerChrysler Financial’s position passed to TD Auto Finance), but the structure has not. RouteOne’s board is still drawn from Ally, Ford Credit, TD Auto Finance and Toyota Financial Services, with Ally’s representative as chair, and Oesterle leads an executive committee that includes a separate president of RouteOne Canada.
