Professional Journey

Luciano trained as an industrial engineer at the Buenos Aires Institute of Technology before joining The Dow Chemical Company, where he spent 25 years. ADM’s proxy statement records his Dow career as various roles from 1985 to 2010, followed by a year as Executive Vice President and President of the Performance division from 2010 to 2011 - a run that took him from operations into the leadership of one of Dow’s largest business portfolios and gave him the industrial-scale manufacturing and commercial background ADM would later recruit him for.

He joined ADM in 2011 as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, responsible for the commercial and production activities of the corn, oilseeds and agricultural services businesses. In 2014 he added the title of President, and in November of that year the board announced he would succeed Patricia Woertz as chief executive effective January 1, 2015. He was elected Chair of the Board effective January 2016, consolidating the two roles Woertz had held.

ADM’s own account of his tenure centres on transformation rather than scale: the company describes him as having spearheaded its major growth drivers, developed its sustainability strategy, increased the use of research and technological innovation, and led a strategic growth campaign that expanded ADM’s footprint in global markets through selective mergers and acquisitions. He remains ADM’s principal executive officer. In July 2026 the board appointed Jeffrey Rowe, formerly chief executive of Syngenta Group, as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer effective August 2026, refilling the operating role Luciano himself held on the way to the top job.

Outside ADM, Luciano is lead independent director of Eli Lilly and Company and an alternate member of the board of Wilmar International, the Singapore-listed agribusiness in which ADM holds a long-standing stake.
