Millet’s first company was Number2.com, an online test preparation service he co-founded and which was acquired in 2002 by Xap Corp, a Culver City, California education technology firm. He stayed on after the acquisition as President of Xap’s test prep division, a period that gave him direct operating experience in assessment delivery at scale.

In 2006 he started Criteria in Los Angeles, with the goal of building a SaaS-based pre-employment testing service that would put the highest quality employee assessment tools within reach of companies of every size rather than only large enterprises with in-house industrial psychologists. The company took no outside money for its first nine years, crossing a thousand customers in 2013 before raising an $8 million Series A from Level Equity in 2015.

The 2019 majority growth investment from Sumeru Equity Partners marked the shift from founder-owned business to private-equity-backed platform, and the acquisitions followed quickly: Revelian in 2020, bringing emotional intelligence and game-based assessment, and Alcami Interactive in 2021, bringing on-demand video interviewing. Under Millet the company then widened its remit past selection entirely, launching Develop in 2023 for post-hire talent management and manager coaching, and building out AI-assisted interviewing and proctoring from 2025.
